Comment :

St. Benedict’s College is situated in Randalstown, County Antrim and officially opened on the first of September 2006.

My aim as college librarian is to raise the profile of the library in St. Benedict’s College and to bring authors, poets, storytellers and illustrators to the library.

Since March 2007 I have been contacting various Irish sports teams, individual sports stars and Irish celebrities from the world of entertainment asking them to donate a signed item to help raise funds for our college library.

Everyone who has helped to date has been very generous and taken a lot of time to provide us with worthwhile fundraising items. They have also been very complimentary about the fundraising idea for the library. Due to the wonderful response, we decided not to hold the event in the college but to approach the local media and GAA websites with the story and to obtain some useful coverage of the cause. The idea is to accept telephone and email bids from the public for the items.

I can be contacted at the following:

Email:-pagnew1@hotmail.com

Telephone:-Paula Agnew at St. Benedict’s College 029 94472411
Thank you.

The fourth Annual Coaching and Games Development Conference, organised by Comhairle Uladh, will take place on Saturday 19th January 2008 in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown. This conference has an excellent track record in providing the most innovative workshops, which have been designed to better equip our coaches for the difficult task they face in striving to make their players the best that they can be. Combined with a range of highly skilled, professional guest speakers, this conference promises to benefit all who register to attend it. This year we would like to see a greater number of Ladies Gaelic Football / Camogie coaches attending to better their knowledge and skills so that we can continue to improve the standard of coaching our players are receiving.

Examples of some of this year’s workshops include:
* ‘Talent Ientification: “Criteria Led or Gut Feeling” ’
* ‘Children: “What to Coach and How to Coach it”

While Keynote speeches will include
* “Nurturing Talent – Developing Champions”.
* “Systems that Challenge Coaches and Support Development”

The conference attendance is limited to 350, and places will be distributed on a first come first served basis. The cost of attending this one-day event is £15 / €20 per person, and you must pre-register, by contacting JOHN KELLY on 07718105795 & he will register the group - After this date you can register yourself, by contacting Bernie Mc Glinchey on 028 37 521900, or email at bmcglinchey@ulster.gaa.ie . The deadline for registration is Tuesday 15th January at 4.00pm.
This conference will cater for all coaches, regardless of ability or qualification level, and anyone who is interested in attending to further their own personal development is welcome.
